Art Across the Spectrum: The New Vic's Autism-Friendly Performances in New York City
"The sensitivity that your staff and volunteers show towards the needs of kids is really great. As a result, my son feels like the New Vic is 'home' and he can't wait to come back!" -- Adrienne K
At The New Victory, we believe the performing arts should be for everyone. We're committed to being a cultural home for New York families and are excited to again have four events in our season that are accessible to individuals with ASD or sensory sensitivity.
Our fourth year of collaboration with Autism Friendly Spaces includes two musicals based on beloved children's books—Mr. Popper's Penguins (tickets are still available for $25 later this month!) and Elephant & Piggie's We Are in a Play—and two sensational circuses—Mother Africa: My Home and Something.
We've created support materials to help prepare audiences for their visit to The New Victory. A Social Story helps by providing a printable narrative that maps out what a trip to the New Vic is like and 360 degree tours are available to orient newcomers to our spaces. We'll even arrange a practice trip to Meet Your Seat in advance if requested! Character Guides (like this one for Mr. Popper's Penguins) and other illustrated visual supports will also be available. Learn more at NewVictory.org/Autism.
The first autism-friendly performance of the season is almost upon us! Grab your tickets to Mr. Popper's Penguins here or share this email with your networks if you have friends who would enjoy these special inclusive performances. Questions? Ticket Services is available at 646.223.3010 or by email.
