Parent - Teacher Workshop--Hands On: Promoting Fine Motor Skills in Preschool and Kindergarten Classrooms Monday, October 06, 2014 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Registration Required.
Learn about the role that fine motor skills have on the academic success of young children and how to help your students who are displaying difficulties with fine motor skills. This program will provide an overview of fine motor skills development, current fine motor programs, and current research. Presented by Laurie Donovan and Alison Hales, NJ state licensed occupational therapists and members of the American Occupational Therapy Association. The workshop is free of charge and open to the public. 1.5 professional development hours will be awarded to attendees.
Tail Waggin' Tutors (All Ages) Tail Waggin’ Tutors: Children Reading to Dogs Tuesday, October 7th 4-5pm. Registration in-person or by phone 908 526-4016 x126 only. Registration required. Come to the Bridgewater Library for Tail Waggin’ Tutors, where children will have the opportunity to practice their reading skills by reading a story to Xena the Therapy Dog, a friendly, eight-year-old chocolate labradoodle. Each child will have 10 minutes to read a favorite story to his or her new, canine friend.
Picture This: Art Exploration for Kids: Gods in Color – The Art of Ancient Greece (Grades 1-5) Wednesday, Oct. 8th From 4:30-5:30 pm. Registration required and begins September 24. Travel back in time with us to Ancient Greece where you will meet the Gods from Mount Olympus and hear about a surprising discovery scientists made about the sculptures there, then create your own statue!
Advocacy: Meeting the Needs of a Child with Autism Thursday, October 9 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Registration required. It has been said that "if you meet one person with autism, you have met one person with autism." Autism is a spectrum disorder, and as such, the needs of those with autism can vary greatly.
In this program, attendees will learn how to access services and supports often needed by those with autism across service delivery systems. Attorneys will describe how to access and advocate for specialized services in educational settings, family support services, adult services, health services, housing and other areas. We will focus on school-based supports, including ABA services, home programming, extended school year services, transition services and accessing effective and appropriate adult services. Friends of the Bridgewater Library presents mr. RAY – Kids Music That Rocks (Ages 2+) Saturday, October 11 From 11:00 am – 11:45 am. Registration opens Friday, September 26 Join mr. RAY as he performs a mix of his own catchy, rock-influenced tunes and “warm n’ fuzzy” classic rock songs from the Beatles to Bob Marley. With his colorful stickered guitar, his songs of friendship, dinosaurs, rainbows and messages of non-bullying will have everyone up and dancing. Diary of a Worm: Teacher’s Pet by Lori Haskins Houran (Based on the books by Doreen Cronin and Harry Bliss) Worm makes a surprising discovery -- teachers have birthdays! That means Worm and his friends have to find the perfect present for their teacher, Mrs. Mulch. We will discuss the book, play some games or create a story related craft. Students should read the book prior to the program. Copies of the books will be available at the Youth Services Reference Desk.
Pumpkin Fun (Ages 3+) Saturday, October 18 10:00 am Registration is required and begins October 3. Join the Bridgewater Garden Club for the annual pumpkin-decorating program! Create a fun, magnificently decorated pumpkin – you bring the pumpkin and we’ll supply the decorating materials! Please note: Be sure to wear a smock or old shirt as we will use paint. Please bring a box to carry home your pumpkin.

Here’s your last chance to practice before the real thing! Even if you’re not taking the real test this year, a free practice test is one of the best ways to prepare for the real thing. By taking this practice test, you will learn exactly what to expect on test day and receive a complete individual analysis of your results (which will be mailed to you 7-10 business days following the test). Don't forget a #2 pencil and calculator!

Free Katherine Trubek Sundays on the Terrace events:
October 5: 3-D Doodle. Using rolled paper participants will create a doodle sculpture. What would appear as a scribble on a piece of paper will be brought off the paper and will fill the Terrace.
October 19: Pop Art Candy Objects. Using a variety of materials participants will create sculptures resembling large scale candy and food.

Pick up your Passport to Adventure at the Museum information desk and choose from our many Artful Adventures activity guides. Once you complete your adventure, visit the information desk to collect a sticker for your passport.
